APC YOUTH MISSION -- CHAPTER ONE

Greetings!!

While the countdown to departure still stands at over seven days, final preparations for the trip began big time last night!

Our group will be 20 in number -- 15 youth and 5 adult advisors.

Last night (Wednesday), we gathered to reflect on the upcoming journey. After playing "Zoo", the group went into the sanctuary to spend time in reflection on several Bible passages. I could not believe the absolute silence that filled the room as the group spent 35 minutes reading, reflecting, and writing (and dozing off)! Those of you who know the energy level of this group would have been amazed by the quietness.

The group looked at the call of Samuel, and pondered their own call to this trip; they sought to answer Jesus' question, "What are you looking for?"; they reflected on Jesus' call to ministry; and finally considered Paul's essay on the "body of Christ" and sought to discern what part of the body they are.
The group returned to share some of what they discovered, and then we created a group banner with each person sharing a symbol that identified who they are. The banner will travel with the group and hang in our living spaces in Memphis and Mobile.

This Sunday, the group will be commissioned in the morning worship at APC; next Wednesday, the Group Covenant will be created; and on Friday, the 17th at 7:00 a.m., we will head south.
We will use this blog to share the group's words and pictures of their adventure. We invite you to follow us on the journey!
